Το γη & ελευθερία γεννήθηκε σαν ιδέα τον Ιανουάριο του 2012 στην Αθήνα, ξεκίνησε να αναπτύσσεται από τον Μάιο και ολοκλήρωσε το ταξίδι του τον Δεκέμβριο του 2012 στην Αθήνα.

Η ιδέα γεννήθηκε αρχικά από ένα μικρό πυρήνα νέων, προερχόμενοι από διάφορα και διαφορετικά πεδία αλλά με κοινή αφετηρία την ανάγκη τους για δημιουργία και συλλογική δράση. Η λίστα των συμμετεχόντων εμπλουτίστηκε μετά από ανοιχτό κάλεσμα συμμετοχής δίνοντας τη δυνατότητα και σε άλλους νέους να εμπλακούν σε αυτή.  Με αυτό τον τρόπο η ιδέα μπόρεσε να πραγματοποιηθεί και να επικοινωνήσει τόσο με φίλους και συνεργάτες της ομάδας όσο και με παρατηρητές και κατοίκους της πόλης.

Η πρωτοβουλία υπήρξε η αφορμή ώστε νέοι άνθρωποι να συναντηθούν, να ανταλλάξουν και να μοιραστούν εμπειρίες, ιδέες και ανησυχίες, διευρύνοντας τους ορίζοντές τους και προκαλώντας τα όρια της φαντασίας τους. Η πρωτοβουλία υλοποιήθηκε αποκλειστικά από τους ίδιους τους συμμετέχοντες δίνοντας έμφαση στη δημιουργικότητα και την νεανική επιχειρηματικότητα, στην ανάπτυξη προσωπικών ικανοτήτων και δεξιοτήτων και στην ενεργή συμμετοχή και επιρροή των νέων που μπορεί να έχουν στον τόπο όπου ζούνε. Με αυτό τον τρόπο τόσο οι συμμετέχοντες όσο και οι παρατηρητές της δράσης μπόρεσαν να ευαισθητοποιηθούν και να ενεργοποιηθούν για προσωπική ανάπτυξη και κοινωνική αλλαγή.

Η έννοια γη & ελευθερία, όπως αυτή εκδηλώνεται σε ένα αστικό τοπίο, αποτέλεσε το αντικείμενο έρευνας της πρωτοβουλίας και προσεγγίστηκε με ποικίλους τρόπους.
Αντλώντας στοιχεία, πρακτικές και δομές της τέχνης, του πολιτισμού και της επιστήμης, οι δραστηριότητες στο σύνολό τους αποτέλεσαν μία πολυστρωματική δημιουργική διαδικασία βασισμένη σε φόρμες της μη τυπικής μάθησης.

Πραγματοποιήθηκαν συζητήσεις μεταξύ των συμμετεχόντων, διαλέξεις από εκπροσώπους του ακαδημαϊκού, καλλιτεχνικού και επιστημονικού χώρου, μελέτη καλλιτεχνικών και επιστημονικών έργων και κειμένων, βιωματικά εργαστήρια χοροθεατρικής, εικαστικής, μουσικής και συγγραφικής έκφρασης, προβολές ταινιών και ντοκυμαντέρ, πορείες και επισκέψεις σε διάφορα σημεία της πόλης, και ομαδικές ρωγμές σε δημόσιους και ιδιωτικούς χώρους.

Τα αποτελέσματα των παραπάνω δραστηριοτήτων παρατηρήθηκαν και επεξεργάστηκαν με τέτοιο τρόπο ώστε να δημιουργηθεί μία καλλιτεχνική δράση με στόχο την παρουσίασή της σε διάφορα υπαίθρια σημεία της πόλης.

Η δράση γη & ελευθερία φιλοξενήθηκε στο Δημόσιο Σήμα/Μεταξουργείο, στο Σύνταγμα/Ερμού, στο πάρκο Ακαδημίας Πλάτωνος και στο Μεταξουργείο/Γκάζι και περιελέμβανε μια σειρά από μικρά επεισόδια με στόχο να επικοινωνήσει και να αλληλεπιδράσει με τους κατοίκους της πόλης. Κατά τη διάρκεια της δράσης ο χώρος και ο χρόνος άλλαζαν περίγραμμα και περιεχόμενο και φιλοξενούσαν νέα δεδομένα. Μέσα από τη δράση των ερμηνευτών ο ρυθμός της πόλης διαταρασσόταν από ένα σύνολο εικόνων σχεδόν μη κανονικών, ενώ η αστική δομή κάποιες φορές επαναπροσδιοριζόταν μέσα από μικρές παρεμβάσεις.
 
Η ενεργός συμμετοχή των συμμετεχόντων αλλά και το θερμό ενδιαφέρον και η εγκάρδια στήριξη των φίλων, συνεργατών, παρατηρητών αλλά και κατοίκων της πόλης για τη δράση μας, αποτελεί βασικό κίνητρο για να προχωρήσουμε συλλογικά και συνεργατικά σε νέες ιδέες και δράσεις, μένοντας πιστοί στους αρχικούς μας οραματισμούς και στόχους. Ευχόμαστε η δράση μας να λειτούργησε και σε άλλους ανθρώπους ως αφετηρία και κίνητρο για δημιουργία, συνεργασία και αλλαγή!

Το γη & ελευθερία είναι μέρος του προγράμματος «Δράση και Δημιουργία» και υπάγεται στο πλαίσιο του Ευρωπαϊκού προγράμματος «Νέα Γενιά σε Δράση», Δράση 1.2. Το πρόγραμμα «Δράση και Δημιουργία» χρηματοδοτήθηκε με την υποστήριξη της Ευρωπαϊκής Επιτροπής και το Ίδρυμα Νεολαίας και Δια Βίου Μάθησης.

TERRA & FREEDOM is a collective outdoor performance in progress which was born in June 2012 by the needs expressed by the members of the collective BelleVille that demonstrate enthusiasm and creativity, but also critical attitude towards inventing their own initiative and actively participating  in a direct a way and at the same time taking the main role in the whole development of the project. The project was supported by the European Commission, Youth In Action Programme, lasted 8 months (May 2012-December 2012) and involved young people coming from different cultural, educational, social and economical backgrounds who are passionate about artistic, cultural and social change.

The performance was presented in four different outdoor public places in Athens in October 2012:
-Metaxourgio, Dimosio Sima | 20 October 2012
a multicultural, artistic and fashionable neighborhood of Athens which draws residents and visitors with its open space, greenery, periodic festivals and gatherings, and adjacent restaurants, theatres and art gallery.
-Syntagma Square, National Parliament | 21 October 2012
The oldest and socially most important square of Athens, a popular city-centre gathering place. The Square is a site of mass protests due to the worsening economic situation because of the Greek government-debt crisis.

There are a plethora of available options for nightlife, including bars, ouzeries, and tavernas. Outdoor seating on pedestrian walks is typical, creating a lively atmosphere at night.

The focus of the project is to observe the concept of free action within an urban space in relation with the actual social situation of a location/city/country and furthermore to re-examine the dynamic of a public space as a place where actions and messages can or cannot emerge. The aim of the project is to research the subject matter in various and different cultural and social environments, nationally and internationally, through the use and combination of contemporary art forms (dance, theater and visual art).

TERRA & FREEDOM was created by a combination of creative and innovative methods of non formal learning. There has been a series of discussion meetings, lectures by artists, academics and scientists, study of artistic and scientific works, theoretical and experiential workshops exploring contemporary art forms (dance, theatre, music, visual art, writing), projection of films and documentaries about the subject matter and outdoor activities in various places in Athens challenging the boundaries between “politically correct” or “non politically correct”. The observation and the composition of the above multidimensional process created a performance for public spaces with the aim to explore new possibilities of performance activity and to allow free interaction with the local community and its observers.

All the performance’s elements (direction, choreography, spoken words and texts, props, scenery, costumes, lighting and sound design) were decided collectively by all the involved participants. Guest artists, academics and scientists enriched the content of the project and eventually the gained knowledge determined the scenes and the subjects that the performance deals with.

-is unique in every place due to its local historical and social structure

-is about going beyond your knowledge of acting, using and interpreting a public space

-becomes part of the local community and both create a new framework

-goes into the urban rhythm and interacts with the fluidity of people and means of transport

-re-shapes a place by adding in simple props like ribbons, pictures, tapes, boxes, carpet

-offers unconventional poetic conditions through contemporary art forms (dance, theater, visual art)

-attracts and invites the locals to participate in it with any means

-raises issues about what is allowed or not in a public space and which are the parameters that determine this

-is a performance that suggests an alternative way of artistic production, where the stage is every outdoor space, the light comes natural, the music is the city’s sound, and the audience is the local community.

Above all, TERRA & FREEDOM is a creative platform where the participants feel free to think, fantasize and risk in contrary to the situation they live in their everyday life due to the Greek government debt-crisis. We feel that the continuous development of the project can offer us new possibilities of artistic production at a time when Greece is experiencing massive economic, political and social changes. We believe that collectivity and creativity are the means for evolution and both can raise new subjects when applied in public spaces. 

The project was part of the programme "Act and Creation", under the umbrella of Youth In Action Programme, Action 1.2. The project was supported by the European Commission and the Youth and Life-Long Learning Greek Institution.
